A breakfast of bacon stacked on scrambled eggs on French toast with salad, miso dressing, maple syrup, and a yogurt granola shooter.

I like surprises, especially delicious ones that are unexpected, and this small serving of granola, yogurt, and fruit is exactly that. Sweetened granola with a few small berries sit atop tangy, creamy yogurt. It's a perfect small bite to start a meal, end a meal, or refresh your palate as you dine.

This yogurt shooter was inspired by an amazingly delicious breakfast my husband and I had at a cafe called "maZe nishihorie" in the Nishi ward in Osaka, Japan.

Nestled on the plate between the French toast and a garden salad was a shot glass of Greek yogurt topped with granola and goji berries. It was a wonderful surprise that I saved for the end of my breakfast, while my husband had his at the beginning. We absolutely loved it, and I think you will too!

    So, let's cook!

    Ingredient Notes

Here's everything you'll need to make these yogurt parfait shooters. Please see the recipe card for the exact quantities.

The Ingredients, labeled, from top to bottom: plain Greek yogurt, honey granola, and fresh berries.
    • Greek Yogurt - Whole milk and unsweetened is best.
    • Honey Granola - Use a honey oat granola or your favorite sweetened granola.
    • Fresh Berries - Small berries work best. Blueberries and raspberries are good choices. You can also use dried goji berries and dried cranberries.

    Substitutions & Variations

    • Thin the Yogurt. Use a tablespoon of heavy cream or half-and-half to thin the yogurt if it is too thick.
    • Substitute Vanilla Greek Yogurt. Less tart and also delicious.
    • Substitute Other Dried Fruits. Consider dried Goji berries, cranberries, currants, raisins, and cherries.
    • Add Nuts. Chopped walnuts, pecans, or almonds are great choices.

    Flavor Variations

    • Vanilla yogurt + strawberries
    • Peach yogurt + raspberries
    • Lemon yogurt + blueberries
    • Fall version - apple pie filling + cinnamon granola

Process Photo 3 - Spooning a thin layer of granola atop the Greek yogurt.

Process Photo 4 - Topping the shooters with a berry or two and more granola.

    My Top Tips

♡ Use a toothpick to remove air pockets and smooth the yogurt in the glass.

♡ A piping bag is a quick way to fill the shot glasses, especially if you are making these for a crowd.

    Yogurt Parfait Shooters Recipe FAQs

Can yogurt parfait shooters be made ahead?

Yes! You can assemble yogurt parfait shooters up to 24 hours in advance. For best texture, add the granola just before serving to keep it crisp.

How do you keep granola from getting soggy in yogurt parfaits?

Layer the yogurt and fruit first, then add granola right before serving. You can also keep granola separate and let guests sprinkle it on top.

What are the best cups for yogurt parfait shooters?

Can I use flavored yogurt instead of plain Greek yogurt?

Yes, vanilla or lightly sweetened yogurt works well and creates a less tangy flavor, making these parfait shooters even more dessert-like.

What fruit works best in yogurt parfait cups?

Berries like blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries are ideal because they are small, colorful, and pair perfectly with creamy yogurt and crunchy granola.

Can yogurt parfait shooters be served as dessert?

Absolutely! These mini yogurt cups can double as a light dessert, especially when made with sweetened yogurt, honey, or a drizzle of chocolate.

How long can yogurt parfait shooters sit out at a party?

Because they contain dairy, yogurt parfait shooters should not sit out longer than 2 hours. Keep them chilled until ready to serve.

    Make-Ahead Tips & Storage

    • Make-Ahead: Spoon or pipe the yogurt into the shot glasses up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerate. Place the filled glasses on a tray or baking dish, and cover tightly with plastic wrap.
    • Keep the Granola Crunchy: Add the granola just before serving to maintain its crisp texture.
    • Storage: Cover fully prepared yogurt parfait shooters with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 2 to 3 days. For the best texture, add granola fresh before serving. Because they contain dairy, these shooters should not be frozen.

We love making these when friends come over for brunch. The glasses can be filled the night before, and toppings added just before our guests arrive to keep the granola crunchy. We also like to layer the parfaits in advance and then add crunchy granola just before serving. There are so many ways to enjoy these!
