Why We Love Christmas Cookie Milk

This was inspired by the cereal milk craze from a few years ago that everyone still loves. That idea was to soak cornflakes in milk to duplicate the flavor the delicious milk at the bottom of a bowl of cereal.

But instead of soaking cookies in milk, we are adding just a whisper of sweetness and flavor to enriched milk with simple ingredients. The result is milk that tastes like you've been dipping sweet Christmas cookies into it. Here's why you'll love this flavored milk recipe.

    • Only 4 Ingredients
    • It's made in 5 minutes.
    • You can use more or less of the ingredients to your taste.
    • It keeps for up to 5 days in the refrigerator.
    • Best of all, it is kid friendly and Santa approved!

    So, let's cook!

    Ingredient Notes

Christmas Cookie Milk ingredients, clockwise from top left: heavy cream, whole milk, confectioners sugar, and vanilla extract.

Here's what you need to make this Christmas Cookie Milk:

    • Whole Milk - Seriously, don't use 2% or non-fat milk. Use whole milk for full flavor, and so you don't need to add as much cream.
    • Heavy Cream - Heavy cream makes this milk rich and satisfying.
    • Confectioners Sugar - You only need a small amount to sweeten the milk. Feel free to use less or more.
    • Vanilla Extract - Most cookies contain vanilla as either the main flavor or as a backdrop flavor. Adding vanilla is the flavor that makes this milk taste like cookie milk.

    Optional Garnishes:

    • Whipped Cream or Whipped Topping
    • Festive Christmas Sprinkles or Jimmies

Please see the recipe card for the exact quantities.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

Process Photo 1a - Pouring all of the ingredients into a quart jar.
Process Photo 1b - Shaking all of the ingredients in a quart jar to mix them.

Combine & Shake. Add all the ingredients to a 1-quart jar. Cover with a lid and shake well.

Serve and Enjoy. Pour into glass, top with whipped cream, and festive sprinkles.

Store any remaining cookie milk in a covered container in the refrigerator.

With time, the cream may separate slightly and float on top of the milk. So, always give the container a good shake before serving.

    My Top Tips

♡ Taste the cookie milk after adding 2 tablespoons of confectioners sugar for the lightest sweetness. Then add more to your taste. We like 3 tablespoons, but you might like a little more.

    Substitutions & Variations

    • Substitute Rich Milk. Rich Milk is not generally available at your local grocer. It is a milk with a higher fat content, often used at upscale coffee houses in lattes and cappucinos. You can use 4 cups of rich milk instead of whole milk and heavy cream.
    • Add a Cinnamon Stick. Add a hint of cinnamon by adding a stick of cinnamon to the milk while it chills.
    • Add Almond Extract - Using a very small amount of almond extract will add depth to the flavor of the milk. However, almond extract is very strong, so, do not exceed ¼ teaspoon.
    • Use Other Toppings - You can also use finely chopped nuts, mini chocolate chips, crushed candies, festive colored sugar, or a drizzle of chocolate or caramel syrup.

    Make-Ahead & Storage

    • Make-Ahead: This cookie milk can be made just before serving or made ahead. Refrigerate it if you don't serve it immediately.
    • Refrigeration: This cookie milk will keep for 5 days in a sealed container in the refrigerator. Before serving, shake it well.
    • Freezing: Unfortunately, you can't freeze milk products.
