A Tequila Hot Toddy contains tequila, Cointreau liqueur, and orange blossom honey. Warm up your winter with this twist on an iconic cocktail.
There really is nothing like a hot toddy to warm you up on a chilly day. Each sip warms you from the inside as the mug warms your hands, while the steamy aromas of honey and citrus tickle your nose. A hot toddy is the ultimate drink that brings cozy comfort on cold winter days.

The typical hot toddy contains whiskey, lemon juice, and honey. These three ingredients are added to a mug and then topped off with boiling water which puts the "hot" in a hot toddy.

But you can make a hot toddy with your favorite spirit instead of whiskey and for this hot toddy I am using tequila and swapping out the lemon for orange flavors. All I can say is this combination of tequila and orange in a hot toddy is... well... magical. Every sip makes me smile.
Ingredient Notes
Here's what you need for this Tequila Hot Toddy:
- Añejo Tequila - This tequila is aged in oak barrels that give it lovely vanilla, brown sugar, and sometimes toasted flavors.
- Cointreau Liqueur - Of all the triple sec type liqueurs, Cointreau is my choice for this drink. It is very rich with orange flavor from sweet and bitter oranges.
- Orange Blossom Honey - You can use any honey, but I like to double down on the orange flavor.
- Boiling Water - Let the water come to a full boil, then add the hot water. This will help thoroughly blend all of the ingredients with just a quick stir.
Garnishes:
- 1 Slice of an Orange
- 1 Cinnamon Stick
- 1 Sprig of Rosemary

How to Make a Tequila Hot Toddy
Add the añejo tequila, Cointreau, and honey to a large mug.
Top off the mug with the boiling water and stir until the honey is dissolved.
Garnish the hot toddy with a slice of orange, cinnamon stick, and a sprig of rosemary.
My Top Tips
♡ I like to add half of the hot water, stir the toddy, and then add a slice of orange. Then it is easy to add additional hot water to top off the drink without overflowing the mug.
♡ If Cointreau is not available, you can substitute another good quality triple sec liqueur or simply add a squeeze of orange.
♡ Each of the ingredients can be adjusted to your liking. If you like a stronger hot toddy, add more tequila and if you like a sweeter hot toddy, increase the honey.
