Why We Love This Easy Taco Dip

    • Only 3 "Must Have" Ingredients
    • Can Be Served with Your Favorite Taco Fixings
    • Can Be Served Without Toppings (It's That Good!!)
    • Quick and Easy to Make - a 15-Minute Recipe

    Why This Recipe Works

This is one of those recipes that is so easy, you'll wonder why you haven't tried it before. It starts with making a simple dip of sour cream and taco seasoning. You could stop there and have a delicious dip with just those two ingredients, but adding just a squeeze of lemon juice brightens the flavor of the spices and is a worthy addition.

Then the fun comes... topping this dip with all of your favorite taco fixings. It can be as simple as sprinkling some shredded lettuce and cheese and a drizzle of your favorite salsa (or hot sauce!). Or you can go all out as I have with lettuce, cheese, tomato, red onion, and black olives.

I've got a fun list of all sorts of taco toppings you might love, and you can use as many or as few as you want!

Oh... and if you don't have time for toppings, this taco dip is amazing on its own without them.

Doesn't this sound deliciously fun? Great!

    So, let's cook!

    Ingredient Notes

Easy Taco Dip Ingredients, clockwise from top: tortilla chips, shredded lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped tomato, fresh lemon juice, chopped red onion, sliced black olives, sour cream, and taco seasoning mix.

Here's What You Need for the Creamy Dip:

    • Sour Cream - Use a full-fat sour cream for the richest, creamiest taste.
    • Taco Seasoning Mix - You will need a whole packet of your favorite taco seasoning mix.
    • Lemon Juice - Although, you can make this dip without lemon juice, adding just a little will brighten the flavor of the dip and make it extra tasty.

Plus, Your Favorite Taco Toppings and Fixings:

    • Lettuce - A hearty lettuce like Iceberg or Little Gem works well and will stay crisp.
    • Cheddar Cheese - You can use any cheese you like for tacos. Medium or sharp cheddar is readily available and super delicious.
    • Cherry Tomatoes - Bright and acidic tomatoes are one of my must-have toppings.
    • Red Onion - Sweet and savory red onion adds another dimension to the flavor of the dip.
    • Black Olives - A few sliced black olives give a nice salty touch to the dip.

    AND... Your favorite dippers!

    • Tortilla Chips - I love tortilla chips, salted, yellow corn are my pick. But you can use your favorite flavored tortilla chip, white corn chip, hearty pita chips, or even bread stick dippers.

Please see the recipe card for the exact quantities.

How to Make This Easy Taco Dip

Mix the Dip. In a small bowl, whisk together the sour cream, taco seasoning mix, and lemon juice.

Process Photo 1 - Whisking sour cream, taco seasoning mix, and lemon juice together to make a taco seasoned creamy dip.

Spread. Spread the creamy dip in a 10" pie pan or quiche dish.

Process Photo 2 - The creamy taco seasoned dip is spread in a shallow dish or pie pan.

Toppings. Top with your favorite taco fixings like shredded lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped cherry tomatoes, chopped red onion, and sliced black olives.

Serve. Serve with your favorite tortilla chips.
