    Apple and Snickers Salad

    Updated: Oct 1, 2024 · Published: Sep 13, 2024 · by Jan Nunes

Apple and Snickers Salad in a white bowl surrounded by green apples and a dish of chopped peanuts with text overlays.

Apple and Snickers Salad is a mashup twist on the classic Waldorf salad of apples, grapes, and nuts and the ever popular creamy fluff salad.

You'll love this salad, which doubles as a dessert, with its sweet and tart flavors. It starts when creamy cool whip and sour cream are whisked with vanilla pudding which is the beginning of most fluff salads. Then, crisp fresh apples, juicy grapes, and sweet and nutty Snickers candy are folded into the fluff.

Why You’ll Love This Apple and Snickers Salad Recipe

    • One Bowl: It can be made in just one bowl.
    • Mixes Quickly: This dessert salad comes together quickly.
    • Not too Sweet: Tart Granny Smith apples and sour cream balance the sweetness of the candy.
    • Crowd Pleaser: This recipe makes up to 10 servings.

    Why This Recipe Works

Just like the famous Pistachio Fluff Salad and all fluff salads, this recipe uses the magic of instant pudding to stabilize the creamy cool whip and sour cream (dairy).

Once the fluffy base is made, it can magically hold many sweet, tart, and even salty, treats. For this recipe, bite-sized pieces of crisp and tart apples, soft and juicy grapes, and sweet Snickers candy are folded into the soft fluffy base.

Importantly, the Snickers candy is more than just a single flavor. It's chocolate, nougat, caramel, and peanuts in one. Chocolate-covered caramel apples in a creamy fluff? Yes, please!

This easy and unique flavor combination has made the Snickers Salad a favorite for years.

    So, let's cook!

    Ingredient Notes

The Ingredients, clockwise from top right: Snickers candy bars, sour cream, caramel ice cream topping, chopped peanuts, halved red grapes, chopped green apple, vanilla instant pudding, and Cool Whip.

Here's what you need to make this Apple and Snickers Salad:

    • Cool Whip Frozen Topping - Like most fluff desserts, this recipe must have Cool Whip as part of its base.
    • Sour Cream - A small amount of sour cream helps make this salad a little less sweet.
    • Vanilla Instant Pudding - This recipe contains instant vanilla pudding which does two things. It thickens the fluff base and adds a lovely vanilla flavor to the salad.
    • Granny Smith Apples - Tart, firm apples, like Granny Smith, are the best choice for this dessert salad.
    • Seedless Red Grapes - Red grapes are a sweet surprise and a textural change for the salad.
    • Snickers Candy Bars - These candy bars are packed with peanuts and sweet nougat, covered in milk chocolate, and super delicious with apples.

    Optional Garnishes:

    • Caramel Ice Cream Topping
    • Chopped Honey Roasted Peanuts

Please see the recipe card for the exact quantities.

Combine. Add the chopped apples, halved grapes, and chopped Snickers candy bars and gently fold to coat.

Chill. Put the salad in a serving bowl, cover, and refrigerate until serving.

Serve & Enjoy. Just before serving, drizzle the salad with the caramel topping and sprinkle with the chopped peanuts and reserved chopped Snickers.

    My Top Tips

♡ To core and chop the apples quickly, I use a kitchen tool from Prepworks that cores and cuts apples into wedges.

A kitchen gadget that cores and cuts apples into wedges on a white cutting board with a cut apple.

♡ Using smaller apples also means less chopping as the wedges will be smaller to make bite-sized pieces quickly.

    Substitutions & Variations

    • Substitute Red Apples. You can substitute red apples for some or all of the green Granny Smith Apples. Choose apples that have a firm and crisp texture like the Honeycrisp or Cosmic Crisp.
    • Omit the Grapes. You can make this salad with only apples and can substitute more apples for the grapes.
    • Can't Eat Peanuts? Substitute Milky Way candy bars for the Snickers and omit the chopped peanuts as a garnish. The Milky Way bar is similar to a Snickers bar but contains no peanuts.

    Make-Ahead & Storage

    • Make-Ahead: You can make this salad earlier in the day to allow the flavors to marry.
    • Refrigeration: It can be refrigerated for up to 4 days. If liquid forms from the fruit, simply stir it into the salad.
    • Freezing: Unfortunately, you can't freeze this salad because it contains sour cream (dairy).
