For years, I've baked holiday treats to give to family and friends. I used to jokingly call it my "cookie extravaganza" because I would spend 4 days mixing, baking, decorating, and placing my homemade treats in festive round tins tied with curling ribbon.

    About This Shopping List

At the height of my goodie gifting, I made approximately 60 dozen treats which meant I needed to be well organized to get everything done efficiently in the time that I had.

Since I was an accountant, it was natural for me to use an Excel spreadsheet to note how much of an ingredient I needed for each treat and then calculate how many pounds of flour, sugar, and butter I would need.

I still use that method, but I thought... why not make a list other people, both seasoned bakers and newbies, could use? I know there are lots of you out there who are power bakers during the holidays, and you know year in and year out what you need. But in some years, you like to try something new, right?

And...if you are new to holiday baking you might find it challenging to know precisely what you need to avoid time-wasting stops at the store to buy "more". Plus, you can plan ahead and take advantage of sales on baking supplies!

Holiday baking season is here, and it's time to stock up on all the essential ingredients to make your creations truly unforgettable. This ultimate holiday shopping list for baking has got you covered from the basics to specialty ingredients that will add a unique twist to your desserts.
